How to Get Brake Dust Bumps Off BMW Rims

1. Park the BMW in a shady area. Rinse off the wheels with a hose and water to dislodge any large pieces of dirt, mud and debris.
2. Spray the wheel cleaner you are using onto the first wheel you are cleaning. Use a non-abrasive, non-acidic wheel cleaner to avoid damaging the finish on the wheels.
3. Allow the wheel cleaner to soak into the brake dust for a couple of minutes. Scrub the wheels with a soft bristled wheel brush to remove the majority of the brake dust.
4. Rinse the wheels off with fresh water. Repeat the cleaning process for more stubborn areas of brake dust, using a terry cloth rag to scrub off the brake dust.
5. Rinse the wheels with water. Hold the clay bar in your hand and drag it across any raised bumps of brake dust or other debris until the surface is smooth. Repeat this process to remove all of the brake dust, road tar and other contaminants from the wheel until it is completely smooth and clean. Repeat for the remaining wheels.
6. Minimize the buildup of brake dust by waxing the wheels with a liquid automotive wax. Apply a thin layer of the wax to the surface and allow to dry to a haze. Buff the wax off of the wheel with a clean, dry, lint-free rag. If the wheels are chromed, use a chrome polish. Clean the wheels once a week to prevent the buildup of brake dust.
