How to Loosen the Fan Clutch in My 2000 BMW 323I
1. Find the hood release lever located beneath your steering wheel near the foot pedals on the driver's side of your 2000 BMW 323I. Pull the lever upwards to release your vehicle's hood from the plastic hood-release latch.
2. Stand over the hood of your 2000 BMW 323I. Run your fingers along the grill of your car to find the plastic hood-release latch that sticks out from the grill. Pull the latch out and up to fully open the hood for access to the cooling system.
3. Unscrew the four screws holding the plastic engine cover in place with a Phillips-head screwdriver to gain access to your BMW's cooling system. Place the screws aside for re-installment.
4. Locate the fan clutch that is connected to the water pump pulley by a 32 mm reverse-threaded fan nut. Fasten your 32 mm wrench around the fan nut.
5. Place your fan clutch water pump pulley holding tool around the water pump pulley to hold it in place. Continue holding the pulley in place while turning the fan nut clockwise with your 32 mm wrench to loosen the fan clutch.
6. Turn the fan clutch clockwise manually with your hands to further loosen or remove it.
