How to Replace the Coolant Temperature Sensor in a 2002 Audi A6

1. Place the Audi A6 in 'Park' on level ground. Turn the engine off and allow the A6 to cool for 20 minutes before attempting any maintenance on the vehicle.
2. Insert a drip pan under the radiator tank, open the tank and drain one gallon of antifreeze; once finished, close the tank.
3. Locate the electrical connector on the coolant sensor and disconnect it. Use a socket wrench to turn and remove the coolant sensor. Pull the sensor out of place and discard.
4. Remove the new coolant sensor from the packaging and put Teflon tape around the threads of the sensor. This is important to avoid leaks. Insert the new sensor into place and tighten with the socket wrench. Connect the electrical wire to the new coolant sensor. Top up the cooling system with one gallon of new antifreeze.
