How to Remove the Dashboard on a 1983 Mercedes
1. Enter the driver's seat of your Mercedes and pull the lever on the lower left hand side of the seat which opens the hood.
2. Disconnect the battery. Walk to the front of your Mercedes and fully open the hood. Locate the battery. Use the wrench to remove the bolt clamp from the negative battery terminal. Lift the negative cable away from the terminal.
3. Remove the glove box. Go to the driver's side and open the glove box. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the two screws attached to the glove box. Lift the box out of the dash.
4. Remove the rest of the screws on the lower dash panels. Remove the lower panels from the vehicle.
5. Unclip the face plate from the front of the dash with your hands.
6. Remove the mounting screws attached to the radio and slide the radio and its bracket from the dash.
7. Remove the instrument cluster. Unscrew the rubber bezel from around the instrument cluster. Remove the screws which fix the cluster to the dash. Unhook the electrical connector from the rear of the cluster and then remove the unit from the vehicle.
8. Locate the rest of the screws on the upper dash and remove them one by one.
9. Lift each of the remaining panels from the vehicle to complete the process.
