How to Remove a Quick Connect Fuel Filter on a BMW

1. Park the BMW and unscrew the gas cap from the gas tank. Removing the gas cap will release the pressure from the fuel line and filter.
2. Jack the front of the BMW up and put the jack stands under the frame rail of the car. Make sure to position the jack stands under the car's frame rail on both sides of the BMW near the front wheels. Release the jack so that the BMW sits securely on the jack stands.
3. Slide under the driver's side of the BMW near the back side of the front tire. Locate the fuel filter, positioned under the engine on the driver's side. The fuel filter will be located directly under the driver's side of the engine near the frame rail. There will be two quick-connect fuel lines coming out of the fuel filter.
4. Slide the pan under the fuel filter. Locate the inlet fuel line that travels from the gas tank to the fuel filter. Then, slide the tapered round end of the fuel line quick-disconnect tool into the end of the inlet-side fuel line. Press the tool into the end of the fuel line until the fuel line releases from the inlet fuel-filter port. Pull the inlet fuel line off the fuel-filter port.
5. Slide the tapered round end of the tool into the end of the outlet fuel line. The outlet fuel line travels from the fuel filter to the engine. Press the tool into the fuel line until the fuel line releases from the fuel-filter port. Pull the fuel line off the fuel-filter port.
6. Remove the clamp that holds the fuel filter in place with a flat-head screwdriver. Pull the fuel filter out and slide the new fuel filter into the clamp. Push both of the fuel lines onto the fuel-filter ports until the fuel lines lock to the fuel filter.
