How to Customize a Mercedes

1. Install a set of aftermarket wheels. A Mercedes looks great with a larger set of wheels and tires, so start the modifying process by swapping out the stock wheels for lighter, more aggressive alloys. Many companies make wheels for Mercedes, but it's best to stick with established brands like BBS, AMG and AC Schnitzer. Try to steer clear of 20-inch chrome rims if possible.
2. Install a lower, stiffer suspension for a better appearance and additional performance. Pair a set of high-quality lowering springs from a company like Brabus or Carlsson with some stiffer shocks from Bilstein or Koni. If you really want to increase the car's handling, bolt on a set of larger sway bars, which will really reduce body roll during fast cornering. Your car will look better and perform better, with more nimble, sure-footed cornering.
3. Increase the engine's horsepower. Replace the stock and restrictive exhaust for a larger-diameter setup and feel the benefit of more power and a more tuned exhaust note. You can go a step further by reprogramming the ECU (electronic control unit) and installing a better air intake. Beyond that, the sky is the limit with supercharger and turbocharger kits that will add a tremendous amount of power to your car.
4. Upgrade your car's stopping power. Better brakes make sure the performance of your Mercedes remains balanced, particularly if you are planning on upgrading the horsepower. Brembo offers big brake kit upgrades for a dramatic improvement in stopping power. If you want to keep it basic, then performance-oriented pads and cross-drilled rotors from a company like Zimmerman is a good bet.
5. Modify the interior. In stock form, a Mercedes interior is a pretty great place to spend time, but there are several options for upgrading this aspect of the car. Start with an aluminum shift knob and go from there. There are aluminum and carbon fiber trim kits available for most cars. You can even install a rich Alcantara (faux suede) headliner for a very upscale look and feel.
6. Unless your Mercedes is one of the high-performance AMG variants, which come standard with an array of performance and aesthetic enhancements, the exterior is probably on the subtle side. Several companies offer aesthetic enhancements, with OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) AMG parts and products from companies like Brabus and MKB being some of the very best in quality and fitment. Have these parts installed and painted by a company that specializes in German marques in order to get the best results.
