How do I Replace the Fuel Filter for a 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SEL?
1. Turn off the 560SEL if it was on. Apply the emergency brake. Place the car jack in front of the rear passenger wheel on the chassis and raise the vehicle. Set the vehicle on the jack stand.
2. Locate the fuel filter near the rear axle. It is a cylinder about the size of a soda can.
3. Put on your plastic gloves. Slide the drip pan below the fuel filter.
4. Remove the two fuel tubes feeding the fuel filter. Clamp one wrench around the nut on the fuel filter. Clamp the other around the collar of the fuel tube. Rotate the wrench on the tube counterclockwise to loosen the tube. Allow the fuel to leak out into the drip pan. Repeat this process for the other tube.
5. Loosen the bolts securing the fuel filter bracket to the chassis with your wrench. Pull the fuel filter out of the bracket when the bracket has loosened.
6. Insert the replacement fuel filter into the fuel filter bracket. Tighten the bolts back in place. Replace the two fuel tubes.
7. Turn the 1987 Mercedes Benz 560SEL on with the ignition key. Turn the vehicle on for five seconds and back off. Repeat this three times total. This process causes the fuel pump to flush the new filter with fuel.
8. Lower the vehicle by removing the jack stand and car jack.
