How to Change the ATF in a 2002 Audi A6

1. Park the vehicle on level ground.
2. Jack the car up and place securely on jack stands or lift the car with an automotive lift. Change the fluid when the gearbox oil is warm but the car has cooled down for a few minutes.
3. Remove the transmission drain plug with a socket and let the fluid drain into an oil container. Set the drain bolt aside.
4. Remove the transmission oil pan. This is held on with bolts that run around the perimeter of the pan.
5. Clean the inside of the oil pan thoroughly with a rag until there are no traces of the old oil. Wipe the magnets off that attract and capture metal particulates.
6. Install a new rubber automatic transmission oil pan gasket and new filter onto the transmission valve body.
7. Reinstall the oil pan, taking care to line up the pan with the new gasket. Tighten the bolts to the factory specifications.
8. Using a high output oil pump, fill the oil pan with automatic transmission fluid. Install the drain plug hand tight into the oil pan.
9. Start the car's engine and with your foot on the brake pedal shift the transmission selector into each gear for 10 seconds.
10. Remove the oil fill plug and top up the remainder of the transmission fluid. This varies from year to year and model to model, so refer to the factory manual for the exact amount of oil that the transmission takes.
