Audi Throttle Body Cleaning

1. Open the hood. Locate the throttle body, which is bolted to the engine's intake manifold.
2. Remove any vacuum lines that go to the throttle body by carefully pulling them off the clamps that hold them on. This will vary depending on the Audi model that you are working on.
3. Loosen the clamp on the hose that is fastened to the side of the throttle body opposite the intake manifold with the screwdriver. Pull the hose off of the throttle body and push it out of the way.
4. Unplug the wiring harness from the throttle body and push the harness out of the way. Remove the bolts that hold the throttle body to the intake manifold. It will probably be held on with four Allen head bolts. Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold.
5. Place the throttle body on a clean rag. Liberally spray throttle body cleaner or carburetor cleaner on the inside of the throttle body. Wipe the inside of the throttle body with a clean rag to remove any oil and carbon residue.
6. Spray more cleaner on the plate inside the throttle body and clean it with Q-tips. Clean the plate and the inside of the throttle body until they are completely free of any oil and residue.
7. Reinstall the throttle body once you have cleaned it. If you choose, you can install a new gasket between the throttle body and the intake manifold. If you are not using a new gasket, simply bolt the throttle body back on with the Allen bolts.
8. Reconnect the wiring harness and the vacuum lines that were disconnected. Reinstall the hose on the intake side of the throttle body and tighten the hose clamp. Shut the hood.
