How to Replace 2002 Audi A4 Plugs

1. Open the hood and remove the A4 engine cover with your Philips head screwdriver. If your A4 is equipped with a four cylinder engine, remove three plastic screws at the front, right-hand side and rear of the cover to remove. If your A4 has a V6 engine, remove four plastic screws that sit in the middle and rear of the engine.
2. Unplug the ignition wires from the ignition coil packs that sit in a row on your engine. Four cylinder engines will have four coil packs positioned in a straight line, while six cylinder engines will have three injectors placed on both sides of the engine. Each ignition wire can be unplugged by pulling the wire back and pushing the tab on the wiring harness down to release it from the coil pack.
3. Remove each of the coil packs by grasping them on both sides and pulling directly upward to reveal the spark plug underneath.
4. Insert a 10 mm socket wrench with extension into the ignition coil pack hole and press down until you feel it lock on the spark plug. Rotate the spark plugs to the left to loosen and pull up to remove them. Repeat this procedure until you have removed all of the spark plugs in your engine.
5. Insert the new spark plugs into the spark plug socket wrench and then insert them down into the ignition coil openings. Tighten them into place by twisting to the right and then use a torque wrench to tighten them to 22 lbs-ft.
6. Insert the ignition coil packs over the spark plugs and push directly down until they click on to the spark plugs. Repeat this procedure for all cylinders.
7. Plug the wiring harnesses into each of the ignition coil packs and reinstall your engine cover to complete the procedure.
