How to Remove the Oil Pan in a 2000 Audi A4

1. Raise the front end of the vehicle with a floor jack. Lower it securely onto jack stands. If you would like some extra room, you can remove the wheels as well, though this is not required.
2. Drain the engine’s oil into an oil container by removing the oil drain plug with a socket and ratchet. Remove the 10-mm bolts that run around the perimeter of the oil pan that fasten it to the motor. The oil pan should come down and rest on the subframe once the bolts are removed.
3. Remove the the bolts for the front engine mount. Remove the mount, noting how the spacers and washers are oriented.
4. Remove the two nuts located on the bottom of the side engine mounts. Raise the motor about 4 inches with the floor jack. Place the jack under the ear that is located at the front of the engine block. Use a piece of wood between the jack and the engine to protect the engine. When you jack the motor up, make sure you don’t pull on any coolant hoses or wiring.
5. Remove the bolts that fasten the subframe to the chassis with a socket. Once the bolts are removed, the subframe should be able to drop down about 4 inches. You can now remove the oil pan from between the motor and the subframe. Proceed with caution as you work, since only the floor jack is holding the engine in place. Installation of the oil pan is the reverse of removal.
