How to Rebuild BMW Brake Calipers

1. Put the car in park and jack the driver's side front wheel up with the car jack.
2. Remove the lug nuts from the wheel and then slide the wheel off the studs. Use the socket wrench to remove the two mounting bolts holding the brake caliper onto the steering strut.
3. Pull the caliper free from the strut and then use the pliers to pull the brake pads from inside the calipers by disengaging the two-pronged retainer clip. Use the socket wrenches to remove the dust boot and brake pistons from inside the caliper.
4. Replace all of the bushings and internal dust seals in the caliper with the new ones from the rebuild kit. Slide a new set of brake pads into the caliper and engage the retainer clips.
5. Slide the caliper back onto the steering strut and reinstall the mounting bolts with the socket wrench. Slide the wheel back into place and remount it with the lug nut wrench. Lower the car and repeat Steps 1-4 on the other three wheels.
