How to Install BMW Chrome Instrument Cluster Rings
1. Telescope the steering wheel away from the dashboard until it is fully extended. To keep the steering wheel in this position, leave the key in the on position.
2. Unscrew the two T10 torx screws from the top of the cluster panel. Press firmly against the torx tool while unscrewing to prevent any slippage and possible stripping of the screws.
3. Insert the blade of the flat-head screwdriver between the dashboard and panel lip and gently pry the two pieces apart. Once the cluster is separated from the dash, wiggle the panel cluster loose until it comes free.
4. Turn the key to the off position and remove it from the ignition. The steering wheel should return to the upright position.
5. Disconnect the black, white, and blue tabs from the back of the cluster panel. To disconnect the tabs, press in the tab on the back while sliding the release bar to the side.
6. Remove the back panel from the main instrument cluster. On the back you will see five cross-shaped connectors. Turn each connector with the flat-nosed pliers so the connector fits into the horizontal groves while simultaneously releasing the four security tabs located on the top and bottom of the cluster.
7. Snap the new chrome cluster rings into place by positioning them over the openings and pressing down firmly. Apply gradual pressure until you hear the ring snap into place.
8. Reassemble your instrument cluster by reversing the dis-assembly steps.
