How to Make a BMW X5 Exhaust System

1. Park your X5 on a level surface and raise each corner of the car using your floor jack. Position a jack stand underneath the subframe of the car on each corner to support it. Repeat until all four corners of the car are resting on jack stands and the car is in the air.
2. Remove the factory exhaust by starting at the exhaust headers, located on the underside of your X5's engine. Remove the bolts that secure the exhaust pipes to the bottom of the exhaust manifold.
3. Follow the exhaust pipes along the underside of your X5 and locate the exhaust hangers at the center and rear of the car. Remove the exhaust from the hangers by lifting it up and pulling the exhaust pipes in the opposite direction.
4. Place the new exhaust pipes on a level surface and weld the exhaust flanges onto the end that will be connecting to the exhaust manifold. Position the exhaust pipe's flanges against the exhaust manifold to ensure that it matches.
5. Weld the exhaust hanger wires to the exhaust pipes so that they match up with the positions of the exhaust hangers on your factory exhaust.
6. Position the muffler onto the end of your exhaust pipes and weld it in place.
7. Allow the exhaust's welds to cool and then apply light welds to all of the newly welded connections to ensure that there will be no air leaks and the pipes are secured together.
8. Position the new exhaust below your X5 and connect it to the exhaust hangers, starting at the muffler's end.
9. Bolt the exhaust flanges to your exhaust manifold, then lower your X5 back onto its tires using your floor jack.
10. Start your X5's engine and allow it to idle for a few minutes to ensure that the check engine light does not illuminate and your X5's onboard computer doesn't display any errors.
