How to Install 1998 Audi A4 Headlights

1. Open the hood of the A4.
2. Look on the rear side of the headlight assembly. Locate the wires running into the rear of the assembly.
3. Pull the rubber covering from the rear of the headlight assembly, this exposes the headlight and its connections.
4. Grab the harness plugging into the rear of the bulb and unplug it by pulling it from the bulb.
5. Look closely at the bulb and locate the thin, wire retainer holding it into place.
6. Squeeze the wire retainer, removing it from the holding slot in the headlight assembly, and pivot it away from the bulb.
7. Grab the rear of the bulb and pull it from the headlight assembly. Notice the bulb has asymmetrical tabs that line up with notches in the headlight assembly, these act as guides for proper headlight alignment.
8. Inset the new bulb into the headlight assembly, lining the tabs of the bulb up with the notches in the assembly.
9. Pivot the wire retainer back over the bulb and lock it into place, by squeezing it and sliding it into the slot on the headlight assembly. Release the wire retainer to lock it into place.
10. Plug the wiring harness into the rear of the headlight bulb.
11. Place the rubber cover back over the bulb access hole and run you finger along the circumference of the rubber cover to ensure a good seal.
12. Repeat steps 2 through 11 for the headlight bulb on the opposite side of the A4.
13. Close the A4's hood.
