How to Troubleshoot a Dodge Sprinter

1. Check the steering column and related bracket for improper an improper weld. You may need to take this to a Dodge dealership for a proper inspection. On some 2003 models, the Sprinter has a weld that was out of spec at the steering column bracket. Under stress, the weld could fail resulting in a complete loss of steering.
2. Check the interior lamp for lens distortion, moisture or wear. The interior lamp on Dodge Sprinters equipped with rear air conditioning may be prone to the interior light failing in hot and humid weather while the air conditioning is on. This, in turn, can cause an electrical short that may cause an in-cabin fire. This issue can be serviced by a Dodge dealership.
3. Check to see if your Dodge sprinter is equipped with a Ricon platform-style wheelchair lift. These wheelchair lifts installed 2006 were prone to malfunction, causing the lift to stow while occupants were still on the lift, injuring the occupant. You may need to have your Sprinter serviced at a Dodge dealership if you have one of these lifts installed on your van.
4. Check to see if your Dodge Sprinter vehicle specification matched the 144-inch wheelbase with a standard roof height. If so, the van needs to be serviced because the impact protection pads are missing in the C-pillar. A Dodge dealership can install these pads under the recall initiated in 2008 for vehicles manufactured after 2006.
