How to Replace the Starter in a 1995 BMW 325

1. Open the hood of the vehicle. Loosen the nut on the negative battery terminal with a wrench, and pull it off the battery.
2. Remove the air cleaner hose from the throttle body assembly using a screwdriver to loosen the clamps. The air cleaner hose looks like a large hose coming out of a black box.
3. Remove the intake manifold support from the car using a socket and ratchet to loosen the bolts. Make sure you mark the electrical wires' original locations with the marker and masking tape first, and then unplug them.
4. Move the lead air duct to the side of the motor so you can gain easy access to the starter. Tag the wires on the starter as to their location using the marker and masking tape. Disconnect the wires using a wrench to remove the nuts.
5. Remove the bolts from the starter using a socket and ratchet, and pull the starter motor away from the engine.
6. Install the new starter, and tighten the bolts holding it in place with the socket and ratchet. Reconnect the wires according to how you tagged them, and tighten the nuts with a wrench. Move the lead air duct back into its proper position.
7. Reinstall the intake manifold support, and put the wires back into their proper place according to your markings. Put the air cleaner assembly back on, and connect the air cleaner hose to the throttle body. Tighten the clamps using the screwdriver.
8. Reconnect the battery terminal, and tighten the nut with a wrench. Close the hood, and start the car to test the installation.
