How to Replace the Left Front Signal Bulb on a 2001 BMW X5

1. Turn the ignition off and raise the hood. Use a socket set with extension attached, to remove four 8mm bolts from the headlight assembly; two bolts are on top of the headlight assembly, and two behind, inside the engine compartment.
2. Pull the headlight away from the car a few inches; just enough so you can see the electrical connectors.
3. Pull the turn signal bulb holder out of the lens; it's located furthest away from the center of the car. Turn counterclockwise and pull backwards.
4. Remove the old bulb from the bulb holder by twisting counterclockwise. Replace the new bulb. Insert the bulb holder back into the lens; turn clockwise to lock it in place. Replace the lens into the headlight housing and tighten the 8mm bolts with a socket wrench.
5. Test the new bulb by activating the turn signal.
