How to Remove the Driveshaft from a 2000 Audi S4

1. Shift the vehicle into park and engage the parking brake.
2. Locate the rear section of the driveshaft. Make a mark with a felt pen showing the position of the pinion in relation to the driveshaft joint.
3. Loosen and remove the bolts from the rear U-joint with a ratchet and socket. Once the bolts are removed, the U-joint should separate from the differential. Grasp the driveshaft and push it toward the front of the vehicle.
4. Slide the driveshaft toward the rear of the vehicle to disconnect it from the transmission. Make sure it passes below the axle housing.
5. Inspect all areas of the driveshaft for damaged spline teeth and metal wear. Be sure to clean and coat all mating and gear areas with engine oil.
