How to Remove the Dash Trim on a BMW 3 Series

1. Disconnect the negative terminal from your battery so that the airbags do not accidentally go off.
2. Remove the steering wheel's airbag by inserting a flat-head screwdriver into the mounting screws that sit at the top of the steering wheel on the left and right sides.
3. Slide the circular airbag housing out of the steering wheel and disconnect the wiring harness.
4. Using a Torx screwdriver, unscrew the two screws that secure the instrument panel's plastic cover. Apply pressure to the bottom of the cover to tip the top of it out of place and remove it.
5. Pry off the two plastic rivets underneath the plastic steering wheel cowl and remove the plastic Phillips screw on top of the steering-wheel cowl.
6. Unscrew the four Torx screws in each corner of the steering-wheel stalk's hub. Remove the stalk assembly and disconnect the wiring harnesses.
7. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws underneath the plastic steering-wheel cover that goes into the foot well. Pry off the plastic rivet where it connects to the center console, using the flat-head screwdriver.
8. Open the glove compartment and remove the two Phillips screws that are facing out and sit at the top of the glove compartment supports.
9. Remove the Phillips screw underneath the glove compartment, toward the driver's side, and remove the three Phillips screws facing you that sit at the top edge of the glove compartment.
10. Pull the glove compartment forward while rotating down to remove it.
11. To remove the passenger-side trim, pry up and away from the dash at the corner of the trim.
12. Repeat Step 11 to remove the remaining trim pieces from the dashboard and complete the removal procedure.
