How to Maintain My Audi B5

Oil Change
1. Drive your car on to ramps or raising it with the floor jack and supporting the front end with jack stands.
2. Position the oil drain pan underneath your oil drain plug and slowly remove the oil drain plug using your 14 mm socket wrench.
3. Allow the oil to drain out and replace the oil drain plug when complete.
4. Open the car's hood and unscrew the oil filler cap. Pour approximately 4.8 quarts of oil into the engine and then screw the oil filler cap back on to complete the oil change.
Check CV Boots for Wear
5. Locate the rubber boots that sit at the inner ends of both front drive axles.
6. Examine the boots for cracks, tears, and inspect the surrounding area of your car's wheel well for any loose grease that may have been leaked from the CV joints.
7. Bring your car off the ramps or lower it to the ground using your floor jack after you have ascertained the condition of your CV boots.
Coil Pack and Spark Plug Maintenance
8. Pop your A4's hood and remove the three plastic screws that secure the engine cover, using your flathead screwdriver.
9. Pull up on each coil pack to remove it from the engine and reveal the spark plugs. Inspect the inner end of it, looking down through its metal tube. You are looking for signs of cylinder misfires or a bad spark plug, which will be indicated by the presence of a black, soot-like film that will coat the inside of the coil pack.
10. Replace any coil packs as necessary by unplugging them from each of their cables and then pushing the new one until the plug until it clicks into place.
11. Remove each spark plug by inserting the 10 mm socket wrench with the extension and inspect it for the same black, soot-like, material. Install new spark plugs as necessary using your 10 mm socket wrench with extension.
12. Insert the coil packs into each of their cylinders and push down firmly until it clicks into place, over each spark plug. Reinstall the plastic engine cover and close your hood to complete the maintenance.
