How to Change the Taillight Bulb in a 2001 Audi A4

1. Open the trunk so that you can gain access to the back side of the taillight housings where the bulbs are installed. Locate and remove the small plastic piece that covers the bolt holding the taillight assembly in place.
2. Remove the bolt with a socket and a ratchet. Set the bolt aside so that it is not misplaced. Pull the taillight assembly out so that you can access the bulbs. On the left side this is done by pulling on the right side of the assembly itself, and on the right side by pulling on the left side of the assembly. There are small rubber inserts that hold the assembly in that will release when you pull on the assembly.
3. Loosen the two clips located on either side of the taillight assembly to access the bulbs. Remove the bulb by pulling it straight out. Install the new bulb in the reverse of removal. Refasten the clips that hold the bulb in place on either side of the assembly.
4. Press the side of the assembly that has the rubber inserts into place so that the inserts pop back into the sheet metal of the trunk. Push the other side into place and then thread in and tighten the bolt that holds the assembly in place.
