How to Change the Shock Absorber on a 1990 BMW 735iL

1. Place the emergency brakes to the on position on your BMW. Roll or set the jack under the vehicle and jack up the rear end. Place jack stands under the frame and set your BMW down on them.
2. Place spring compressor on the driver's side spring and tighten it until the pressure is off the shocks.
3. Use your torque wrench to loosen and remove the top and bottom retaining bolts for the driver's side shock.
4. Slide the old shock on and place the new one on. Tighten the retaining bottom and top retaining bolts to approximately 95 foot pounds of Torque. Remove the spring compressor.
5. Repeat steps 2 to 4 to replace the shock on the passenger side.
6. Raise your BMW a few inches. You'll just need enough room to be able to slide the jack stands out. Lower your BMW down from the floor jack.
