How to Change a 1998 Ml320 Serpentine Belt With a Removal Tool

1. Park the 1998 Mercedes Ml320 in a safe work area. Open the hood and and secure it in place with the lock rod. Look on the top of the plastic guard that covers the top of the radiator and you will see the belt routing diagram. Use this diagram to route the new belt around each pulley.
2. Inspect the front of the engine and locate the v-belt tensioner. The belt tensioner is located in the center of the engine. The tensioner has a pulley with a torx bolt head in the center of it that is used for relieving the tension on the belt.
3. Slide the end of the belt removal and installation tool onto the torx bolt head in the center of the tensioner pulley.
4. Turn the tensioner counter clockwise with one hand and slide the belt off of the tensioner pulley with your other hand. Then, release the tensioner and remove the belt from the pulleys.
5. Slide the new belt around the crankshaft pulley. Then, put the new belt around each of the accessory pulleys by following the instructions on the belt routing diagram.
6. Turn the belt tensioner counter clockwise again with the tool with one hand and slide the new belt onto the tensioner pulley with your other hand. Release the tool and slide the tool off of the tensioner.
7. Inspect the new belt to ensure that it has been properly routed around each pulley. Then, crank the engine and inspect the new belt again for about one minute to make sure that the new belt remains seated inside of the pulleys with the engine running. Turn the engine off and shut the hood.
