How do I Troubleshoot a Mercedes Benz C230 CD Player?

1. Use a CD lens cleaner disc to clean the CD player's laser lens. If you are receiving a message similar to 'Disc Error' from the player, it could be because the laser lens in the CD player is dirty. This cleaner CD has a small brush on it that gently removes dirt and dust from the lens. Once the disc is in, just follow the audio instructions.
2. Check the CDs that you have been trying to play. Take a look at the side that does not have a label. If you see that they are dirty or scratched, they might be the issue and not your car's CD player. You can clean them by using a soft cloth and buffing out the smudges. If the CD is really dirty, put some rubbing alcohol on the cloth before buffing it. Once the CD is clean, place it in the CD player to see if it will play properly.
3. Press the reset button if you have a model that came equipped with the six disc CD changer and are receiving a 'Magazine Empty' message. The CD changer is located either in the trunk or glove box depending on what year the car is. Slide open the door that covers the magazine and look for the small black button that is located on the changer unit. Use the tip of a pen or a small screw driver and press down on the button for a few seconds to reset it.
4. Go under the dashboard and check the wiring harness for the back of the CD player. Make sure it is securely connected.
