How do I Install a Radio in a 1983 Audi?

1. Open the hood. Locate the car battery at the rear of the engine bay on the left-hand side. Loosen and disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the car battery with an adjustable wrench. Place the cable away from the battery, so that the terminals cannot touch each other accidentally. This avoids the risk of a short circuit of electric shock.
2. Slide the Audi radio removal keys into the slots on the side of the radio. Push them in until they are locked in place. Pull on the keys to pull the radio out of the dashboard. Disconnect the wire harness and radio antenna.
3. Connect the wire harnesses coming out of the dashboard to the wire harness of the new radio. The wire harness contains the power ground and speaker wiring for the radio. Connect the wire harnesses using a wire harness adapter specific to the 1983 Audi. Ensure the connections are secure by giving them a light tug.
4. Connect the radio antenna -- thick black cable -- to the specific port on the back of the new radio. This is usually on the left hand side of the aftermarket radio.
5. Slide the new radio and the wiring into the dashboard housing. Be careful not to trap any of the wiring. Push the radio in until it is fully housed in the dashboard. Reconnect the vehicle battery.
