How to Upgrade the Multimedia Audio Controller

1. Read your motherboard's manual to determine what type of card slots you have. Purchase a sound card that matches your slot type.
2. Open the computer case by unscrewing the access door from the back of the case. Lift the access door off. Unplug the computer and turn it on its side.
3. Remove the current sound card, which has the audio connections to your speakers on the outside of it. Unscrew the card from the case, and lift it out. If you have a sound card that is built in to your computer's motherboard, you can skip this step.
4. Insert the new sound card. Push the new card straight down into the slot that matches your sound card type. Screw the card into the back of the case to hold it in place. Connect the audio cable from your DVD drive's SPDIF port to the SPDIF connection on the sound card.
5. Close the case, and restart the computer. Windows will find the new sound card and ask for the drivers. Put the driver CD in, and browse to the driver folder. Select the drivers for your operating system, and click 'OK.'
