How to Replace a Headliner With Sunroof in a 1988 Mercedes Benz 560 SEC

1. Enter the inside of your Mercedes. Use the sharp blade to cut around 3 inches in to headliner. Cut a square hole in the center of your headliner to reveal the support rod which goes across the roof.
2. Remove the support rod across the roof of the Mercedes with a metal saw. Discard the rod. Use a file to smooth the edges left by the removed rod.
3. Measure the area left by the removed rod to determine the dead center. Use a drill to make a hole in the center up through the roof. Remove the sunroof template from your installation kit and lay it out on the roof.
4. Line up the template so that the hole in the roof is at the center. Draw around the template with chalk to mark it out on the roof. Make the hole in the roof bigger with a pair of metal shears. Cut out from the hole to the edge of the chalk outline. Cut around the outline and remove the panel away from the roof. This will be where your sunroof will go.
5. Lift the frame of the sunroof onto the top of your Mercedes 560. Use a socket wrench to secure the mounting bolts in place. Apply adhesive between the sunroof frame and the roof of the vehicle to secure the frame firmly in place.
6. Enter the interior of your vehicle. Use a Phillips screwdriver to secure the base of the sunroof and headliner in place. Attach the crank handle to the attachment at the front of the sunroof.
7. Lift the glass sunroof panel onto the top of the sunroof. Remove the panel clamps from the installation kit and place them around the edges of the sunroof. Use a socket wrench to tighten the bolts on the clamps in order to secure them around the glass panel. Turn the crank to open and close the sunroof in order to check that it works correctly.
