How to Remove a BMW 545i Battery

1. Open the trunk of the BMW 545i. Locate the luggage compartment trim on the right side of the trunk. The BMW 5 series batteries are located in the trunk under the luggage compartment.
2. Open the luggage compartment’s rotary clips and remove the clips. Pull out the luggage compartment trim.
3. Disconnect the IBS cable’s connection plug, which is located on top of the battery box.
4. Loosen the two clips located on top of the battery box using a flathead screwdriver. Lift the battery box off the battery terminal.
5. Release the holder pin that holds the battery to the box. Detach the vent on the bottom center near the directional arrow.
6. Use a socket wrench to remove the two bolts from the protective plastic bar that holds the battery in place. Remove the plastic bar.
7. Loosen the nut that holds the black negative cable in place with a socket wrench. Remove the negative cable from the battery terminal. Loosen the nut that holds the red positive cable in place. Remove the positive cable from the terminal. Do not remove the positive cable first.
8. Push the battery back and away from the front fixture. Lift the battery out of the car.
