How to Install a Battery in a BMW 325XI


1. Open the memory saver kit. Plug the 9 volt battery included in the kit in to the memory saver. Check that the memory saver's green light if it is lit, replace the 9 volt battery if the memory saver's green light has not turned on.
2. Open the driver's door of the car. Insert the memory saver into the car's cigarette lighter receptacle in the center console of the car.
3. Open the vehicle's trunk and pull open the battery compartment located at the right side of the trunk.
4. Remove the negative cable from the battery's post using the socket wrench and 10mm socket to loosen the bolt on the negative cable's clamp.
5. Remove the red protective cover of the positive cable. Remove the positive cable from the battery's post using the socket wrench and 10mm socket to loosen the bolt on the positive cable's clamp.
6. Remove the car's battery clamp, located at the negative side of the battery, using the Phillips screwdriver to loosen and remove its screw.
7. Slide the battery slightly to the back of the car to gain access to the battery's vent tube located at the positive side of the battery. Disconnect the battery's vent tube from the car's tube by pulling the battery's vent tube off its connector.
8. Pull the battery out of the car's battery compartment using the battery's handles.
9. Connect the new battery's vent tube to the car's tube first before installing the new battery in to the compartment. Connect the vent tube to the battery.
10. Reinstall the car's battery clamp using the Phillips screwdriver in tightening the clamp's screw. Ensure that the new battery is secured in its compartment.
11. Insert the positive cable's clamp to the battery's positive post. Tighten the clamp's bolt using the socket wrench to secure the cable to the battery. Return the positive cable protective cover.
12. Insert the negative cable's clamp to the battery's negative post. Secure the cable to the battery by tightening the clamp's bolt using the socket wrench.
13. Close the battery compartment lid and close the vehicle's trunk.
14. Start the car to check the new battery. If the car starts, remove the memory saver from the car's cigarette lighter.
