How to Replace the Headlamps on a 1995 BMW 318Is

1. Park the 1995 BMW 318Is on level ground with the engine off, the lights off and the hood open. If the car has recently been driven with the headlamps on, let the car cool for an hour before proceeding.
2. Locate one of the two main headlight assemblies at the nose of the car.
3. Locate the headlamp bulb socket at the rear of the headlight assembly, found inside the engine compartment. The headlamp bulb socket is cylindrical, has wires running into one end and protrudes from the rear of the headlight assembly.
4. Grasp the headlamp bulb socket, and turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise, then pull it rearward and out of the headlamp assembly. Grasp the base of the headlamp bulb socket with one hand and the headlamp with the thumb and forefinger of the other hand. Pull the headlamp straight up to free it from the headlamp bulb socket.
5. Push the new headlamp straight into the headlamp bulb socket as far as it will go. Insert the headlamp bulb socket in the rear of the headlamp assembly, and turn it 90 degrees clockwise to lock it in place.
6. Repeat the procedure on the other headlamp assembly, if you are replacing both headlamps.
7. Turn the dashboard-mounted headlamp switch to the 'On' position, ensuring the new headlamps function.
