Where Is the Oil Filter Located in a 1998 Mecedes E320?

1. Open the hood of your 1998 Mercedes Benz E320, and secure it open. Position yourself in front of the bumper.
2. Look for the oil filter housing; it will have a black plastic cover and will sit on the front top part of the engine on the driver's side.
3. Wrap a washrag around the top of the housing's black plastic cover, then remove the cover with either Mercedes' special removal tool or a channel-lock (split joint) pliers. If you turn it counterclockwise, the cover will screw right off.
4. Look inside the oil filter housing for the oil filter. The 1998 Mercedes Benz E320 uses a cartridge-style oil filter instead of the cased, spin-on type many modern car models use.
5. Reach in and remove the filter with your hands.
