How to Lower the Engine Noise in a BMW M3

1. Open your BMW M3's hood by pulling the hood latch on the left side of the driver's side foot well.
2. Cut the sound dampening material with a pair of scissors into a square shape that matches the height and width of your M3's hood.
3. Peel off strips of double-sided tape and expose one of the adhesive sides to the underside of the hood. Strategically place the tape so that it will secure the sound dampening material at all four corners, as well as the center.
4. Peel off the adhesive backing on the double-sided tape to expose the other adhesive side and begin to place the sound dampening material into the underside of the hood. Apply as much pressure as you can to the material as you push it up on to the hood. Start from the front of the hood and work your way towards the back.
5. Apply pressure to all four corners of the sound dampening material to ensure that it is adhered to the hood, then gently shut your hood. You may experience some resistance closing the hood at first; however, that will dissipate over time as the sound dampening material molds to the shapes of the engine components that it touches.
