How to Replace Glass in Mercedes Mirror

1. Order a new Mercedes replacement mirror glass from a certified retailer; a dealership or auto supply store should have the right part. Check to ensure that you purchase a mirror for the model and year of Mercedes vehicle you own. The wrong year or model may not fit over your mirror frame.
2. Wear work gloves and safety goggles when working with glass. Remove the old glass from the frame. Loosen the edges of the mirror from the frame with a flat-blade screwdriver. Heat the mirror for about one minute with the heat gun to soften the glue. Pull the mirror away from the frame gently with needle-nose pliers. Discard the broken mirror pieces in a trash can or dumpster.
3. Scrape away any remaining glue with a putty knife. Shine a flashlight down inside the mirror housing to check for damage to the mirror housing and for loose glass shards down inside the housing. If the housing is damaged, replace it; if you find shards, remove them.
4. Apply waterproof silicone glue to the inside of the mirror frame. Spread the glue with a putty knife for a stronger bond.
5. Press the mirror glass into the frame, holding tightly for about 30 seconds. Release the pressure at this point and check whether the glass remains snugly inside the frame. If it does not, hold for 30 more seconds.
6. Wrap the mirror with electrical tape to hold the glass inside the frame. Keep the glass on the frame for at least 24 hours while the glue completely dries. Do not allow the mirror to come into contact with snow, ice or water during this drying period. If you have a garage, drive the car inside during drying time. If not, park the car in a covered parking area or apply the glue during a sunny forecast.
