How to Replace the Cam Sensor in a BMW 330

1. Make sure the ignition is off. If your BMW 330 has a screw-on acoustic cover on the engine, remove the seal caps. Then remove the nuts, using the appropriate socket. Remove the cover. If the cover has stud fasteners, lift the cover slightly on each corner as you open each press stud. Pull the cover off once loosened.
2. Disconnect the wiring harness connector for the camshaft position sensor, which is located on the front housing of the cylinder head. Unscrew the bolt holding the sensor by using the appropriate socket. Pull the sensor out of the housing.
3. Check the seal for damage. If it is damaged, replace it. Push the sensor into the housing and bolt it in place. Plug in the wiring harness connector. Press the cover into place until you hear the four press studs click. If you have the screw-on cover, replace the cover and tighten the bolts firmly. Clear the codes, using a code scanner.
