How to Replace a BMW E39 Interior Rear Light

1. Pry the plastic cover off the rear interior light using a flat-head screwdriver wrapped in a small cloth. The interior light cover has a small hole in its side where you can place the screwdriver to pry off the cover. Covering the tip of the screwdriver with a cloth reduces the chance of damaging the soft plastic of the interior light.
2. Pull out the burned-out bulb from the light fixture and replace it with a new one.
3. Rub some petroleum jelly on the edges of the plastic cover. This will allow it to snap back into position without damaging the cover or the interior trim.
4. Slide the plastic cover back over the light and snap it into place.
