How to Replace an Air Bag Module

1. Turn off the engine and open the hood. Disconnect the ground cable from the car battery's negative terminal using a wrench. Wait 15 minutes before doing any further work on your car. This will prevent the air bag from deploying accidentally.
2. Remove the car's center console. Locate all the screws at the bottom of the console and remove any console accessories, such as the cup holder or ashtray. Remove the console screws and lift the parking brake.
3. Pull the center console out by pressing the trim panel tabs located on the edges of the gear shift.
4. Locate the air bag module and disconnect the wires that run into the back of the module. Once you have unhooked all the wires, use a wrench to remove the bolts that hold the module in place.
5. Install the new module and attach the wires, then secure it by attaching the bolts that were previously removed. Reinstall the center console by reversing the removal process and secure the console with the screws that were removed.
6. Reconnect the ground cable to the battery.
