How to Format an SD Card for MP3

1. Insert the micro-SD card into a micro-SD card adapter. If your MP3 SD card is not a micro card, go to step 2.
2. Insert the SD card into a card reader port on your computer. If you do not have a built-in card reader, insert the card into a USB card reader and then into a USB port.
3. Click on "Start," then double-click on "Computer." If you use Windows XP, it will read as "My Computer."
4. Look at the list on the right side of the window that opens up. It contains folders that are on your computer. Find your memory card. It may be listed as "Removable Disk" and have a drive letter beside it.
5. Right-click on your SD card's folder, and select "Format" from your options list. The next window will tell you the capacity of the card, such as 2 GB or 4 GB. You will also be asked to select a file type. SanDisk recommends choosing the "FAT32" file type for cards that are 4 GB or higher, and "FAT" for cards that are 2 GB or lower.
6. Select your file type, then click on "Start." When the card is done formatting, it is wiped clean and ready to use.
