How to Replace Motor Mounts on a Mercedes 300D

Replacing the Motor Mounts
1. Jack the vehicle up using the heavy duty floor jack and place the vehicle onto the jack stands. Secure the parking break.
2. Locate the two large bolts which hold each of the motor mounts in place. One is located on the top and the other on the bottom. To access the bottom one you will have to get under the car.
3. Loosen the large bolts most of the way on the top and completely remove them on the bottom using the ratchet and socket.
4. Secure the engine to the engine hoist and take up any slack in the hanging chain.
5. Remove the upper motor mount bolts from the mounts once the slack has been removed from the chains.
6. Using the engine hoist, lift the engine about 5 inches to facilitate the removal of the motor mounts from their placements. It is not necessary to disconnect the drive train or other engine components if you are lifting the engine less than 6 inches.
7. Remove the motor mounts form their placements and discard them. Your local auto parts retailer might be interested in buying these units for recycling.
8. Put the new motor mounts into the placements and secure them with the large bolts about half way.
9. Lower the engine back into place.
10. Tighten all four bolts as tightly as you can but do not torque them.
11. Check all the engine connections to make sure nothing came loose when the engine was raised.
12. Remove the vehicle form the jack stands and lower it to the ground by releasing the pressure on the heavy duty floor jack.
13. Drive the vehicle for about 20 minutes and then check all engine connections again.
