How to Program a Smart Key for a Mercedes

1. Place your key in the ignition of your Mercedes-Benz, without turning the ignition on. Look for a glowing red light on the key, which means that your car is programming itself to your key. This process can take up to an hour to complete. This method of programming does not work on every year or model.
2. Call your local Mercedes-Benz dealership if you tried programming your key in the ignition unsuccessfully. Schedule a time to visit the dealership to have your keys programmed to your vehicle.
3. Provide the Mercedes dealership with the key code to your car, which is located in your purchase paperwork, or with the vehicle identification number (VIN) of your Mercedes, by which the dealer can determine the key code to your vehicle. Wait while your vehicle's keys are programmed and pay for your smart keys.
