How to Change the Oil in a 1976 Mercedes 300D


1. Raise the Mercedes using the jack until there is sufficient room to work comfortably under the car.
2. Place the jack stands under the Mercedes. They should be sitting level on the ground and placed squarely under the frame of the vehicle.
3. Locate the oil drain plug on the bottom of the engine. Place the drain pan beneath the plug.
4. Remove the drain plug with the adjustable wrench. Let the oil drain until the flow comes to a complete stop.
5. Reinstall the drain plug and tighten with the wrench.
6. Remove the used oil, all tools and the jack stands from under the Mercedes.
7. Lower the Mercedes with the jack.
8. Raise the Mercedes's hood and locate the oil filter casing. It should be located on the passenger's side of the vehicle to the rear of the engine near the battery.
9. Remove the nuts on top of the casing and remove the cover.
10. Remove the old filter and insert the new one.
11. Replace the cover and nuts that secure it.
12. Remove the oil fill cover and use the funnel to fill the engine with the new motor oil.
13. Replace the oil fill cover and run the engine for several minutes.
14. Check the oil level with the oil dipstick. Adjust the level as necessary.
15. Discard the used oil and filter in accordance with local law.
