How to Repair the Headlight on a BMW Z4

1. Turn your engine off and engage the parking brake. Open and secure the hood. Disconnect the car battery's negative cable by removing the cable's nut with an adjustable wrench so you do not get shocked while repairing the headlight.
2. Look behind the headlight you are repairing and find the two panels that are directly behind the headlight. Locate the small slotted knob on each liner. Turn both of these knobs counterclockwise and remove or swing the panels open to access the back of the headlight.
3. Access the headlight behind the top panel. Locate the metal bar that runs horizontally across the black rear cover. Push the bar down and remove the rear cover.
4. Pull the plug and bulb out of the light you want to replace. If you are changing the bulb, rotate the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the plug and replace with a new bulb in a clockwise manner. If you want to replace the whole plug, disconnect the wiring unit from the back of the plug by gripping the connector and pulling it straight back until it disconnects. Connect the new plug to the wiring unit.
5. Reposition the plug with the new bulb back where you found it. Put the panels back into position. Reattach the negative battery cable with the adjustable wrench, turning the nut clockwise. Close the vehicle's hood.
