How to Change the Oil Filter in a BMW

1. Locate the oil filter housing in the front of the BMW engine close to the intake manifold.
2. Place an open end wrench over the 6mm hex bolt at the top of the oil filter cover. Remove the cover from the oil filter.
3. Position a drain pan on the ground beneath the oil filter. Remove the oil filter from the filter canister in the engine, placing the old oil filter in the drain pan.
4. Place the new oil filter in the filter canister of the engine. Place the oil filter cover over the new filter, securing it with the open end wrench.
