How to Change a 410D Fuel Filter

1. Turn off your 410D if it is running. Prop open the hood. Pull back on the battery cover tabs and slide the battery cover out of its mounting slots. Loosen the negative battery terminal nut with a wrench. Disconnect the negative battery cable and set it aside.
2. Put on latex gloves. Clean the area around the hoses on the fuel filter with a rag to prevent dirt from getting into the hoses when you remove them. Note the positions of the hoses on the current filter so that you can reconnect them to the replacement filter in the same manner.
3. Press inward on the hose collar tab with your screwdriver or finger. Slide the collars away from the stems of the fuel filter. Pull the hoses off the fuel filter.
4. Reach down the side of the fuel filter for the spring-loaded clip holding it in place. Press the spring-loaded clip away from the filter to release the filter from the clip. Pull the filter out of the engine bay.
5. Lubricate the stems of the new fuel filter with motor oil. Insert the fuel filter into the fuel filter bracket and secure it in place with the fuel filter clip. Press the hoses onto the stems of the fuel filter in the same pattern that the hoses were connected on the old fuel filter. Secure the hoses to the stems by sliding the collars up the hose onto the portion of the hose that overlaps the fitting.
6. Reconnect the negative battery cable. Start your 410D, let it idle for three seconds and then turn it off. Repeat this process five or six times to prime the fuel system and remove any air that got into the fuel lines while you changed the filter.
