How to Adjust the Headlights of a BMW 525I

1. Park the vehicle in front of a solid wall. Make sure it is approximately 25 feet away. Use the tape measure to check the distance and make sure the headlights are directly facing the wall. As the headlights are more visible at night, this process is easier to perform after sundown.
2. Use the tape measure as a straightening line and stretch it from the center of the headlights to the wall. Mark this spot on the wall with chalk or some other marking item like tape.
3. Turn off the car, but leave the keys in the ignition to the On position. This will prevent any injuries caused by the engine running, but still allow the vehicle to shine its headlights.
4. Turn on the headlights and make sure they are visible on the wall.
5. Put on the gloves and open the hood of the car. The headlight assembly should be near the front of the vehicle. On top of the headlight assembly is the adjustment screw, which is the largest screw on the headlight assembly and can only be turned with a flathead screwdriver.
6. Rotate the assembly screw. The lights on the wall will move up or down depending on how you rotate. Try to aim the center of the lights at the place marked with chalk. The edges of the light on the wall should be of equal distance from the center. Once the headlights are adjusted, turn off the vehicle and close the hood.
