How to Troubleshoot a Central Locking System for a BMW 325

1. Change the battery in the remote control if the doors fail to lock or unlock when you press the button. Remove the cover and insert a new battery with the plus icon facing upwards. Then press the cover to close it. Try the system again.
2. Use the key to unlock the system if the remote control still won't work. Stray radio interference can cause this. When you move the car the problem should correct itself.
3. Reset the way in which the car is unlocked for all of the remotes if you experience unusual door opening behavior when pressing the unlock button. Each remote needs to be set individually. Open the car with the remote you want to reset and push the horizontal button in the turn signal stalk repeatedly until the key symbol and the text 'Set' shows up on the instrument cluster display.
4. Press the vertical button in the turn signal control repeatedly until the door symbols appear. Press the arrow buttons to choose between unlocking the driver's door and fuel filler door, or the entire vehicle. Press the horizontal button again to store the settings for that remote.
5. Repeat the previous steps for each remote. Choose either all the doors, or just the driver's side door opening for each remote.
