How to Tow With a Mercedes 240D
1. Calculate the trailer's total mass by adding the cargo's weight to the trailer's gross mass (GTW). The trailer's GTW will be located on a data plate riveted to the frame.
2. Determine if it is safe to tow the trailer by comparing the vehicle's towing capacity to the weight of the trailer. The trailer weight should be lower than the vehicle's capabilities.
3. Lower the trailer's coupler onto the hitch ball and lock it in place with the latch. Secure the latch by pushing a hitch pin through the locking hole in the handle.
4. Fasten the trailer's chain to the 240D's hitch by crossing them under the coupler and hooking them on the hitch's chain connections.
5. Connect the trailer's electrical coupler to the vehicle's receiver. Test the lights prior to heading out on the road.
6. Double check all connections and make sure the vehicle and trailer are roadworthy.
