How to Add a Navigation System to a 2006 Mercedes E350


1. Pop the hood and remove the negative battery terminal with an adjustable wrench. Take the loose connector and wrap it in a cloth to prevent it from grounding on the body.
2. Remove the front console bezel with a slotted screwdriver. Insert the tip of the screwdriver into the gap located directly left of the ignition and gently pry the bezel away from the dash. Work around the bezel prying every two to three inches until it can be grasped and pulled away from the dashboard.
3. Remove the stock radio system by removing the four securing bolts using a 3/8 ratchet wrench and an 11mm socket. Gently remove the radio and disconnect the two wire bundles and the antenna plug. Place the original radio to the side. Connect the after-market stereo wire harness to the two original wire bundles.
4. Remove the after-market dashboard stereo kit and locate the installation brackets. Install these brackets to the navigation system with the supplied screws or bolts. Connect the after-market stereo wire harness and antenna plug into the navigation system. Run the navigation antenna cable through the stereo compartment and push the wire through the defrost vent near the front windshield. Connect the navigation antenna to the wire lead and mount to the dash.
5. Push the wires into the stereo compartment and gently slide the navigation unit into the compartment. Be sure to check for wires getting caught in the brackets are between the unit and the dashboard. Push the unit into place and secure using the four bolts. Replace the console bezel by snapping the piece in at the top first and firmly clicking the tabs spaced every four or five inches until firmly attached the dashboard.
6. Remove the negative battery terminal from the cloth and secure to the negative post of the battery. Secure tightly using the adjustable wrench until the cable cannot be twisted. Turn on the vehicle to ensure the navigation system properly powers on. Allow the navigation system five minutes to acquire a GPS satellite for proper functioning.
