Brake Pad Sensor Installation in a BMW 528i

1. Park your 528i on a level surface and engage the parking brake as well as the 'park' or 'reverse' gear before turning off your engine.
2. Loosen, but do not remove, the lug nuts on your front wheels by using your 17 mm socket wrench.
3. Raise each front corner of your 528i by lifting it up with the floor jack and supporting each front corner with one of the jack stands.
4. Remove the lug nuts on your front wheels and set each front wheel aside.
5. Locate the brake pad wear sensors that are connected to the brake caliper assemblies at each of the front disc brakes. The wear sensors are positioned on the inside edges of the brake calipers.
6. Unplug the old brake pad wear sensors and insert the replacement wear sensors in their place.
7. Re-mount your front wheels and install the lug nuts to secure them to the wheel hubs. Do not tighten the lug nuts completely until the car is resting back on the ground.
8. Lift each front corner of the car and remove the jack stand that supports it so that the car is parked on level ground again. Tighten your lug nuts on your front wheels all of the way to complete the brake pad wear sensor installation.
