Audi 100 Fuel Pump Removal Instructions

1. Open the hood of your Audi 100. Loosen the negative battery terminal nut with your wrench. Lift off the negative battery cable to avoid the possibility of electrical shock. By disconnecting the negative cable from the the battery the accessory electrical components in the Audi cannot receive current from the battery. Open the fuse box. Remove the fuse controlling the fuel pump to prevent any electrical current flowing to the fuel pump while you are working on it.
2. Locate the banjo bolt on the fuel rail behind the master cylinder in the engine bay. Place a rag around this banjo bolt. Loosen the banjo bolt. Let some fuel bubble out of the banjo bolt. Clean up any fuel that leaks out with your rag. This action relieves pressure in the fuel system.
3. Open the trunk. Remove the carpet covering. Remove the spare tire.
4. Remove the four bolts around the access panel with your socket wrench. Pull off the access panel by hand.
5. Disconnect the wiring connector from the fuel pump. Press in the side tabs with your hand to pull the connector off of the socket. Disconnect the fuel return hose, the fuel sending hose, and the vent hose with the hose quick disconnect tool. Insert the head of the tool into the fitting, press inward, and pull the hose off of the fitting.
6. Loosen the locking sleeve around the fuel pump with Audi wrench VAG 3087. Pull off the sleeve.
7. Gently pull the fuel pump out of the tank, but do not jerk it out because it still has lines connected to it. Remove the fuel intake hose from the bottom of the fuel pump. Press in the side tabs of the wiring connector to pull it off of the fuel pump.
8. Pull the fuel pump completely out of the Audi 100.
